You may know that the birthstone for April is diamonds. While they are gorgeous stones AND they’re probably what the horned wonders in your life deserve, we have a few more mystical (and affordable) options for Aries and early Taurus. April’s stones are sure to add something special to your collection, and they are the perfect way to complete our series of stones for the zodiac. Because as every wise one knows, endings and beginnings are one.

Kambaba Jasper

Kambaba Jasper

When you look at Kambaba Jasper, it’s hard not to get the sense that it’s looking back at you. Shapes resembling eyes or single-celled organisms dot the surface of this deep and intense stone. If you know anyone born under the first sign of the zodiac, you may know that they can be pretty intense themselves. That’s why we love a stone like Kambaba Jasper which can stand up to the flames of April babies with an abiding calm.

Kambaba Jasper evokes the sense of returning to our most primordial selves, and we recommend using this April stone to tap into that energy. Carrying this stone with you will help to promote calm and cleanse your field of some of the excess anxiety brought on by our complex world. Before performing this stone’s meditation, we recommend spending some time holding it and even gazing at the swirls under dim light. Allow yourself to get lost in the gorgeous patterns of this sedimentary rock.

Find a comfortable seat in a quiet space without too much bright light. Sit your stone a foot or so in front of you so that it falls naturally in your gaze with your eyes lowered. Spend a few moments breathing normally and settling yourself before taking seven deep, cleansing breaths. With each breath, inhale through your nose and exhale loudly through your mouth. Try to make the in- and out-breaths equal length. After your seventh exhalation, start to become aware of your body. Specifically, envision the network of arteries, veins, and capillaries that are woven throughout your form, connecting every part of you to your heart. Feel the gentle pulse of your blood as it moves through you, nourishing every system with fresh Oxygen and nutrients. Take a moment to express gratitude for this incredible system which provides life to your body and a home for your conscious being. In your mind’s eye, zoom into a single red blood cell. Imagine its journey from your heart to its next destination. Notice the similarity of this single cell to the very first cells of life which formed in the vast oceans of Earth. Trace your own connection to these cells. Consider how on a large scale, a transformation has occurred to make you what you are, and yet you are still very much a network of cells which are just like the very first stirrings of life. Contemplate these connections as long as you wish, and when you’re ready, begin to zoom back out, bringing your awareness to the room around you. If you have tapped into a sense of simplicity, know that you don’t have to keep it, but you can carry it forward into your day if you choose.

Red Jasper

Red Jasper

Just like Kambaba Jasper and all Jaspers, Red Jasper is a great stone to turn to when you’re feeling anxious or stressed. It’s naturally suited to calming, but this stone adds the invigorating properties of fire to its work. Think of it as the rock equivalent of a good run—turning up the energy can turn down the stress.

Red Jasper is a great stone to use if you want to engage your mind in the active healing of your body. Spiritual healers have understood since the beginning of time that our consciousness and physical being are intimately and inextricably connected. Health in one promotes health in the other, and imbalance in one creates imbalance in the other. Western science may be late to the party on this fact of life, but they are learning more about it every day.

Fire is the element of spirit, of passion. Put simply, it’s our ignition. Aries happens to be the cardinal fire sign, meaning it sets the tone for the spring season, and by virtue of being the first sign, the entire year. For this reason, we encourage you to grab some Red Jasper and enlist your mind into helping your body kick into gear. Use this stone as an object for meditation when working with your metabolism and digestion, the fiery powerhouses within you.

Golden Healer

Golden Healer

Golden Healer is a variety of Quartz that is actually great for all the zodiac signs. That’s why we’ve chosen it to complete our series with Taurus, the same place we started last year. It derives its yellow color from iron, which adds a new dimension to the powerful cleansing and healing properties of clear Quartz.

We urge you not to be confused by the name. Golden Healer does not heal you. In fact, no stone heals you. You are the healer. You have within you the power to heal your own mind, body, spirit, and in so doing you are able to heal your relationships and the world around you. Think of this stone as a symbol for who and what you are. When you focus your intention, cleanse your mental and physical space, and align your actions to achieve your goals, you are able to change the moment, change a feeling, change your life. You can change the world. The rocks you choose to surround yourself with only assist you by reflecting the qualities you’re seeking to bring into your life.

So this April, or any day you choose, we invite you to come into the gift shop and find a stone like Golden Healer that can remind you of your own power and potential, a totem to carry on your journey and support you when you need it.
